Jocelyn Prince (she/her/hers) is Owner and a Principal at ALJP Consulting from the South Side of Chicago who has worked with nonprofit and political organizations across the U.S. for over 20 years as an artist, administrator and community organizer.
Thought Leadership and Teaching: Jocelyn has taught in the Leadership for Creative Enterprises graduate program and the undergraduate rhetoric, theater and performance studies departments at Northwestern University, and served on the theater management faculty at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University. She has presented and spoken on panels at the Communities in Schools National Forum, the Department of Performance Arts at Georgetown University, the Theatre Communications Group National Conference, the Department of Theatre Arts at Howard University, the EMC Arts Continuing Innovation Convening, and the Department of Africana Studies; Rites and Reason at Brown University. In association with The Opportunity Agenda, Kerry Washington, and Netflix, Jocelyn moderated talkbacks for the Broadway production and film adaptation of American Son by Christopher Demons-Brown in NYC, Chicago and Miami. She has written for TimeOut Chicago, TimeOut New York, Howlround, American Theatre, The Chicago Reporter, Nonprofit Quarterly and the African American Review.
Nonprofit Arts Administration: She has previously served as Artistic Coordinator at Yale Repertory Theatre, Site Coordinator for Almira PreK-8 Academy at Cleveland Play House, Connectivity Director at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, and Artistic Associate at The Public Theater, where she co-facilitated the Emerging Writers Group. She was a Co-Founding Artistic Director of The New Black Fest in NYC.
Activism: Jocelyn is the creator of Theater Folx of Color, an affinity Facebook group for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) working in the theater and other related industries with 14K+ members. Her marathon street performance protest "Honk for Justice Chicago" in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in 2020, was featured in a variety of outlets including Chicago Tonight, The Chicago Reader, and The Washington Post. Jocelyn recently co-authored a book chapter about the protest with Dr. Harvey Young for the 2023 publication - Acts of Rebellion, Activism, and Solidarity in Contemporary Black Theatre and Performance.
Artistic Work: She has worked as a Production Dramaturg nationwide at various theaters including Goodman Theatre, Court Theatre, Juilliard School of Drama, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, European Repertory Company, Congo Square Theatre Company, eta Creative Arts Foundation and Lifeline Theatre. She is an Associate with Beehive Dramaturgy Studio. Jocelyn has directed new work for the Playwrights Gym at Dobama Theatre, the Cleveland Playwrights Festival at Playwrights Local 4181, The Dark Room at Cleveland Public Theater, the Go Green Festival at The Movement Theatre Company in NYC, the Around the Coyote Festival, and Snapshots 10-Minute Play Festival at 20% Theatre Company Chicago. She was the assistant director for the world premiere of The Bluest Eye by Lydia Diamond at Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Jocelyn has been a guest artist at the Seabury Quinn, Jr. Playwrights Festival and the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Nationals. Her performance poetry has been featured by The Encyclopedia Show Chicago and District of Columbia, and La Ti Do.
Political Organizing: Jocelyn is a longtime Democratic Party activist and has held field staff positions with Obama for America (2008), Hillary for America (2016), Kamala Harris for the People (2020), and Harris for President (2024). She first knocked on a door in her neighborhood to collect petition signatures for a political campaign at 12 years old, and has organized voters and volunteers in rural, suburban and urban areas in battleground states. #yeswecan
Education: Jocelyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Bradley University and a Master of Arts in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. She is a proud alum of the legendary Bradley University Speech Team.
Jocelyn dedicates ALJP Consulting to her late great high school educator, Daniel P. Sackett, who instilled in her a passion for activism and an ardent artistic curiosity in her formative years.
